Drop typesSalt or sweetDrop can be salt or sweet. But it's not as simple as that. A wide variety of flavours exist. Some people prefer the sweet version. Others want a mildly salted variety. Then there is ofcourse the straightforward salt drop. An finally, for the real pro's even extra-salt, or double-salt drop is available. Soft or hardThe difference between soft and hard is not related to flavour but more to the 'density' or the 'bite' of the drop. A soft variety could almost be eaten without using your teeth. It's not that soft that it would melt in your mouth, but you can easily squeeze it between your fingers. (This is only to give you an impression, for the rest I don't see any reason to squeeze drop). A hard drop variety feels more like a piece of your car tires. It's strong and solid. You must really bite it to eat it. Other flavoursIngredients like honey, menthol, anise or eucaliptus can be added to the drop to influence it's flavour. SalmiacSalmiac salt can be one of the main ingredients to give the typically salted flavour. But salmiac salt is also available in its pure form. It's salt, very salt. But it can be eaten. In some drop varieties a very exiting combination is made between sugar and this salmiac salt. |
