| Globally this website is quite sobre. One of my starting points is that Internet pages must be accessible by the largest group of web surfers possible. Also users with a low speed connection or people working with an outdated browser or text-only browser. As far as the subject allows me, I therefor use very few pictures or graphical effects. Further I'm quite eager on publishing my pages in correct html. All html-code on this website is written with a text editor without the use of an html generator. Only by working like this, I feel that I'm in control of things. Maybe I will once create some parts of this site in a more advanced way, specially for latest generation browsers with all kind of plug-ins. But so far I've enough work in maintaining this site. |
| One of the most difficult points in webdesign is probably the layout. The site should be good-looking. The pages should have a uniform appearance. Navigation must be logical. And extensions at a later moment should be relatively easy. In the end I decided to throw out one requirement. The different parts of my site have no longer one uniform layout. In fact that also has some advantages; It's easier to adapt the style to the contents and whenever I change something in one part of the site, I don't have to update everything. In fact there are now several independent smaller websites, all united under erikvandewiel.com. |
